In the competitive world of fashion, internationalising a brand is often a major challenge for emerging designers. However, thanks to WBDM’s financial support programme, fashion designers benefit from a unique opportunity to develop their brand internationally.
The context of the programme
Initiated by Wallonie-Bruxelles Design Mode, the programme aims to support fashion designers in their internationalisation process. Its aim is to encourage diversity, innovation and creativity in the fashion sector, while promoting the presence of Belgian brands on the international scene.
What does the Fashion Programme offer?
This year, WBDM is offering brands based in the Walloon Region or Brussels:
- 5 grants (1x €35,000, 2x €20,000 and 2x €10,000) to boost their export strategy;
- 6 coaching grants of €4,000 to be supported by experts.
How are the grants used?
Financial support can:
- Help with promotion abroad: Selected designers can take part in renowned international events such as trade fairs, fashion shows and exhibitions. This gives crucial visibility to their collections and expands their professional network.
- Support in finding foreign markets: The programme can support the search for potential markets abroad. Industry experts are also available to guide designers in identifying opportunities in specific markets.
- Strengthen international business skills: Coaching sessions can help strengthen designers’ skills in international business management, marketing and negotiation.
Selection process
Applicants to the programme are assessed on the basis of the artistic quality of their designs, their commercial potential and their commitment to the international development of their brand. A panel of fashion industry experts selects the most promising designers.
The jury, meeting on 15.10.2024, is composed of :
- Serge Carreira, Director – Emerging Brands Initiative at Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode;
